Attached to the Pyrenean foothills, the province of Béarn is a small region in southwest France and consists of three wine-growing zones. The most remarkable is located along the Adour, a capricious river that gives a unique microclimate to the entire valley. Heavy rainfall combines with local winds influenced by the Pyrenees, the Atlantic Ocean, and, to a lesser extent, the Mediterranean Sea. The hillsides are subject to significant geological variations due to the formation of the Pyrenees mountain range.
