The Thomassin family is one of the oldest owners of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. Château de France, located near Bordeaux in the Graves region, is emblematic of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. It was taken over in 1971 by Bernard Thomassin, who restored the estate to restore its former glory. The 40-hectare family estate in the Pessac-Léognan AOC includes 36 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for red wine production and 4 hectares of Sauvignon and Sémillon for white wine production. The Château de France red and Château de France white wines regularly receive international acclaim.
The estate boasts a unique terroir: the Ferbos lieu-dit, typical of this Graves region, and—more confidentially—a plot aptly named "Coquillat," which is riddled with fossils dating back 19 million years.
