The Le Suchot cuvée is part of the Champagne Vaucelle brand, launched by Thomas Cheurlin, a descendant of a Champagne house that has been passed down from father to son for 10 generations. Whilst the Maison Thomas Cheurlin in Celles-sur-Ource is renowned for its refined cuvées, Thomas Cheurlin sought to make his mark in the world of champagne by creating a new brand, Champagne Vaucelle. Without, however, denying his family heritage – quite the contrary.
“Mindful of the house’s heritage across the generations, my aim remains to create champagnes that reflect my own image and philosophy, guided by a simple motto: to produce authentic champagnes that are true to my nature and our terroirs. That is why I wanted to create a brand where I could do just that whilst upholding family traditions, and that is exactly what Champagne Vaucelle embodies.”
The House, which has been based in Celles since 1677, remains a family-run and independent business, committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly viticulture. Champagne Vaucelle showcases the richness of the Côte des Bar terroir. “With production on a human scale, we aim to maintain a balance between tradition and innovation, honouring our family heritage whilst meeting the modern expectations of champagne lovers. Each bottle embodies nearly 350 years of history, passion and excellence.”
The range currently comprises six champagnes, made from the traditional Champagne grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc
Life in Pink
Thomas Cheurlin also owns a few vineyards in Provence. Just one hectare, which is enough to produce a very pleasant Rosé de Provence, a blend of Grenache (80%), Cinsault and Syrah. Delicate and fruity, with aromas of wild strawberries and raspberries, ‘French’E’ strikes a fine balance between richness and liveliness. This wine pairs wonderfully with cured ham and guacamole, oven-baked salmon with thyme, aubergine terrine, pan-fried scallops with saffron, and summer salads.

To round off the ‘rosé delights’ from Maison Thomas Cheurlin, a red ratafia. This liqueur, made from Pinot Noir and alcohol, will delight food lovers with its flavours of morello cherry, grape and blackberry. On the palate, it is fruity, with aromas of cherry and blood orange, and is refreshing. It pairs perfectly with melon, charcuterie and strawberry and chocolate desserts.

Alcohol abuse is dangerous for health. To consume with moderation.
