WE around the Titisee in the Black Forest

The Titisee is one of the legendary lakes in the heart of the Black Forest.

Latest edition : 17 August 2014

It is one of the most legendary and most frequented lakes in the Black Forest.

And yet it is not very big: only 2 km long and 1 km wide, formed by the glacier which extended there only 10,000 years ago coming down from the Feldberg. About 30 km east of Freiburg im Breisgau, the secret capital of the Black Forest, it attracts visitors from all over the world as evidenced by the many shops. Between cuckoo clocks, Swarovski jewelry, traditional clothing and smoked ham, you can find everything from kitsch to quality. People come there to shop, to walk, to take a boat or pedal boat ride, to take advantage of the many hiking trails. If you don't want to or can't walk, get on the little tourist train "Zäpfle-Bähnle" to explore the landscape around the lake for an hour (info at the restaurant "Pferdestall).

Located in a beautiful natural setting, it offers many possibilities for hiking and sightseeing.
Only at the Hofgut Sternen hotel with its glass workshops and cuckoo making. From there also starts the hike of the ravenna gorges.

Feldberg

Direction the Feldberg, the highest peak in the Black Forest (1493m). We booked an E-Smart which is a bit sluggish on the climb (60km), but silent. In addition, it does not pollute the atmosphere. Always equipped with our magic card, we take the cable cars to reach the top. From there, the panoramic view goes to the Alps (in good weather).

Thanks to the card we don't have to climb the steps of the panoramic tower: it's so much more convenient to take the elevator to the 11th floor. From there the 360 ° glance is worth the trip. Going down to the 2nd floor, “the Black Forest ham museum” does not deserve more than a quick glance.

Lake

A tour of the lake aboard one of the passenger boats, with a small electric boat or a pedal boat, is a must. A few brave people swim across the lake. In the evening we attend the brand new aquatic show created especially for the Titisee by the company "Aquatique show".

Rothaus and its famous brewery

Founded in 1791 by the Prince Abbot of the Abbey of Saint Blaise in the Black Forest, the Rothaus (red house) brewery in Grafenhausen is the highest in Germany.

At an altitude of 1000m, it is located as close as possible to its 7 sources of pure water. This water which is the body and the main component of beer. With an audio guide (in French), we set off to discover the brewery, the beer-making process: hops, malt, yeasts, top and bottom fermentation. All that's left to do is taste.

Schlühüwanapark trail

After an invigorating break in the restaurant or in the brewery's “beer garden”, it's time to explore the surrounding nature.

Many paths start from the brewery, such as the Schlühhüwanapark which starts a few steps from the famous traditional villa "Hüsli" of Doctor Brinkmann - the doctor adored by the spectators of the German series "Die Schwartzwaldklinik" (the clinic of the Black Forest ).
Surprise, the path which crosses this forest devastated by the Lothar storm of 1999, is populated by funny creatures. To discover in pictures.
