Le Grez, a red AOP Cahors

The aging of this wine from Château Famaey takes place in a sandstone jar.

Grape variety :
Malbec, age of vines 15 to 20 years

Eye :
Deep ruby, purple reflections

Nose :
Red fruits, spices, black pepper, nutmeg, fine smoky notes

Mouth :
Ample, melted, velvety tannins, nice length on the fruit, cherries, blackcurrant and spices. Nice freshness for a Malbec with character.

Wine pairing :
Beef carpaccio, lamb shoulder with herbs, lamb shank, brie

 

Château Famaey, a family estate undergoing organic conversion, is located at the foot of the village of Puy l’Evêque. The vines flourish on sunny terraces in the Lot valley, in the heart of the Cahors appellation. At the origin of the estate, two Belgian friends, Luc Luyckx and Marc Van Antwerpen, who fell under the charm of the region. To the point of purchasing, in 2001, a 40 hectare vineyard. Maarten, Luc's son, joined them in 2007 and takes care of the winemaking. The estate is certified High Environmental Value and produces several ranges of wines.

Château Famaey is part of the “Generation Cahors Lieux-Dits” winegrowers club. These are nine estates in Cahors which share the desire to vinify more by plot, to highlight their 100% Malbec localities, to always better express their already recognized terroirs and their great Malbec grape variety.
