In the heart of the picturesque town of Barr nestled in a setting of renowned vineyards, La Table du 5 welcomes gourmets.

By pushing the door of the venerable building which dates from the 16th century, you are surprised to enter a vast bright room with elegant and refined lines. Large bay windows are framed in Vosges sandstone, impressive old beams support the ceiling and a few squares reveal the traditional cob. Here, there is no Alsatian folklore but beautiful wooden tables without tablecloths, comfortable leather armchairs and a bench that runs along the walls.

An elegant but not stuffy setting, just like the cuisine of a young team who have acquired solid training in renowned establishments.

Chef Mathias Stelter began his apprenticeship with a starred restaurant in Germany. The basic words being in French, and attracted by French cuisine, Mathias left for France to learn the language and ended up getting a job at the Auberge de l'Ill. He continues his journey on a cruise liner under the leadership, again, of a starred chef, before heading for Monaco at Alain Ducasse's Louis XV.
His companion Axelle Gillig, met while she was working in the kitchens of Chambard, had preceded him there. A few other starred establishments later, Axelle and Mathias consider themselves ready to settle in their own restaurant.

Without finding their happiness. “We didn't really fall in love with it before discovering this place, which corresponded exactly to our dreams,” says Axelle. “Of course, it's not our own restaurant, but the owner (Jean-Daniel Seltz) shares our vision of quality cuisine, elegant and authentic but without fuss. We work as much as possible with local products, seasonal of course.”
For Mathias, the product takes center stage. “Without complicated associations so as not to distort it. I just highlight it with fine emulsions. Our objective: to please the guests with a generous cuisine”
Although there are no typical Alsatian dishes on the menu, the house's "signature dish" is nevertheless a nod to the region: coq au riesling with homemade spaetzle and foie gras. A delight!
The menu changes every two months, and the accompaniments vary according to the season, according to the markets. A slate offers suggestions depending on the products. "But we have to keep a few essentials on the menu," smiles Axelle. Guests return for the organic egg from Alsace, the tuna sashimi or the tartare. »

The dishes are tasty, cooking and impeccable texture. The eye delights at the sight of an entry as "simple" as a tomato carpaccio that is festive thanks to the play of colors. A creamy basil sorbet highlights the flavor of this ripe vegetable-fruit.

Also recommended is the tuna sashimi with exotic fruit vinaigrette.

Or the roasted line-meat, served with wild garlic risotto and an Alsatian saffron emulsion.
If you are tempted to taste several dishes, be sure to save a small place to taste one of the desserts made by Arnaud Kempf.

He too worked for the two-starred chef and best worker in France Olivier Nasti in Kaysersberg.

In the dining room as in the kitchen, good humor is essential.

For each dish, sommelier Fanny Erhard gives her wise advice with enthusiasm.

The menu gives pride of place to Bas-Rhin wines, selected by Jean-Daniel Seltz, a passionate connoisseur. It was he who tastefully renovated this place steeped in history. This entrepreneur is passionate about design and hospitality. And he loves good food.
